Becoming an Affiliate

What is an Affiliate Program?

Affiliate programs are business agreements you set up with other sites on the internet, where in exchange for driving traffic and/or customers to their site, will give you a commission (or vice-versa if you have opened your own store). Affiliate programs oftentimes cost companies less than other forms of advertising and can also drive a much better customer base to their site. There are three different types of affiliate type programs: pay-per click, pay-per lead, and pay-per sale.

Pay-Per Click Affiliate Programs

Some companies merely have you place a link/banner/image on your site and pay every time someone simply clicks on it for the referral. These programs will pay something on the order of 5 to 99 cents per click.

Pay-Per Lead Affiliate Programs

Other companies pay you a commission when you refer someone to the site and they fill out a form, sign up for the mailing list, or do something similar which makes them a potential customer for the site. These programs can pay up to $50 for each new customer.

Pay-Per Sale Affiliate Programs

This is probably the most popular type of affiliate program. Here you are paid only when the customer goes through your site and purchases a product or service. These programs pay something on the order of 5-20% of the each purchase.
